Poets Note: David Koresh ( born Vernon Wayne Howell on August 17, 1959) was the young leader of a Branch Davidian religious sect, who pursued a dual career as divinely elected prophet and rock singer, using music to attract young followers to his sect. On April 19, 1993 he and seventy five followers did not survive an F.B.I. siege during which–the cause a lingering controversy–their compound in Waco, Texas was set ablaze.
