“Epitaph”

_________________________________________________________________________

Poet’s Note: The date in this poem is random, chosen more for rhythm, as the speaker is an anonymous person about to die, which is both locally eventful and, alas, also uneventful in the larger scheme.

This poem was originally published in ,  in 1979,  as part of David Ignatow’s portfolio of new poets. It was later published in  my first poetry book Translations without Originals, 1980,   , then reprinted in An Ear to the Ground: An Anthology of Contemporary American Poetry, edited Marie Harris and Kathleen Aguero, University of Georgia Press, 1989.
